Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV)

For Trans Day of Visibility I had planned a get together at the LGBT Centre, to celebrate our lives and stand together with one another in community and friendship. The irony doesn’t escape me that a day to celebrate our lives, to ‘be visible,’ comes at a time when it can be difficult to think of celebrating. As for being visible, the current lockdown has certainly scuppered any potential socialising.

We may not be able to gather together and we may not feel like celebrating anything. But let’s take the essence of what it would have been, friendship and community, and still use that today. Let’s all reach out to one another, give someone a call, maybe send a ‘how are you doing’ message, if you feel brave enough think about having a video chat with a friend, loved one or family member.

All this comes with its own challenges of course, not least possibly battling against your own worries, fears, concerns, living as we do under Covid 19. I know that I have my own fair share of uncertainty over what will happen. But let’s try, let’s show each other that things may be grim but….we are not alone.

If you want to have a chat with me during the day, I’m available on 0121 643 0821 between 10.00am – 6.00pm, and I’d appreciate the chance to have a chat.

And remember, when this has all blown over and ‘normal service is resumed’, we will have a celebratory event.
