Together we can provide support to LGBTQ people in need.
Abuse, isolation, self-harm, low self-esteem and poor health. These are major issues experienced every day by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer people as a consequence of the discrimination LGBT communities around the world still face.
We are a grassroots charity embedded in the centre of Birmingham, delivering services and offering support to the LGBT community here for almost 20 years.
We’re working to provide essential sexual health testing and advice, reduce isolation and foster community among older LGBT people and supporting those suffering as a result of abuse and discrimination. We’re also delivering crucial equality training to other organisations, helping LGBT people improve their mental and physical well being and celebrating LGBT artists and performers with one of the largest queer arts & culture festival outside of London.
A small £12 donation provides a safe meeting space for an hour for an LGBT community group to socialise, share ideas and have fun without fear of discrimination.
We have over 20 groups who meet regularly at the centre, ranging from film clubs to support groups to line dancing.
Just £25 provides a 1 hour session with a counsellor or a domestic violence advocate, helping LGBT people to live an authentic life free from abuse and self-doubt.
“A big thanks to the IDVAs for all your help and support. I will never forget how you have helped me in my journey. I am now able to live freely away from abuse.“ – Anonymous domestic violence service user
And £120 pays for a 3 hour Trans youth group, fostering a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment for trans young people. Our support makes it possible to for them to make new friends who share their experiences and explore their identity in a safe space.
A survey of the members of the group showed 100% had made new friends as a result, almost 90% said it had boosted their confidence and almost 75% said it had helped improve their self-esteem.
