Job Role

Birmingham LGBT is seeking to recruit a Business Development Manager (BDM) to work closely with the Director to grow the business activities of Birmingham LGBT. The BDM’s core purpose is to work with the Director, the management team and the Board of Trustees to identify and develop new business and funding opportunities to help Birmingham LGBT to meet its charitable objectives.

The successful applicant will join a motivated and enthusiastic team based at the Birmingham LGBT Centre in central Birmingham.

Terms:

Salary £34,854 (approx. 50% pro rata )18.5 hours per week

25 days’ annual leave (approx. 50% pro rata ) plus bank holidays

Plus up to 5% matched pension contributions.

18-month fixed-term contract, ongoing subject to funding.

Job description

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will grow the business activities of Birmingham LGBT by working with the Director, members of the management team and the Board of Trustees to identify and develop new business and funding opportunities, to enable Birmingham LGBT to meet its charitable objectives.

The BDM’s main areas of responsibility include:

  • Bidding for and securing income from a range of sources to support Birmingham LGBT’s  Strategic and Business Plans.
  • Leading the development of a range of commercial business services, including developing the paid-for training offered by Birmingham LGBT, and developing other commercial opportunities.
  • Building relationships with a range of key stakeholders to better position Birmingham LGBT and develop opportunities for corporate sponsorship.
  • Supporting the Director in identifying opportunities, developing and submitting proposals, bids and tenders.
  • Gaining a full understanding of all Birmingham LGBT’s teams and activities to identify and develop new opportunities.

 

Main duties:

 

  1. Fundraising and Business development
  • Bidding for funding and submitting tenders to ensure the financial stability of Birmingham LGBT.
  • Developing Birmingham LGBT@s fundraising strategy with the Director, the management team and the Board of Trustees.
  • Identifying opportunities to increase corporate sponsorship of Birmingham LGBT’s services.
  • Developing and implementing a strategy to increase individual giving, donations and legacies.
  • Identifying ways to develop services through new funding streams, partnerships and commissioning opportunities.
  • Supporting fundraising activities and volunteering opportunities.

 

  1.  Relationships with key partners
  • Identifying key partners and potential partnership opportunities.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders, partners and community members.
  • Building positive relationships with a range of funding providers, including Third Sector, Public Sector, and Private Sector, and promoting and raising awareness of Birmingham LGBT in the West Midlands region.
  • Building relationships and partnerships and pursuing funding avenues for new service activities in line with Birmingham LGBTs charitable objectives.

 

  1. Information and publicity
  • Representing Birmingham LGBT at Third-Sector and other events.
  • Working with the Finance Officer to gain an overview of current funding and to develop a support and social media strategy to increase funding.
  • Setting up and managing first-class systems for CRM, event bookings, data capture and delivery of advertising and sponsorship packages, to ensure these are fully compliant with current best practice.

 

  1. General duties and tasks:
  • To be largely self-servicing.
  • To meet or exceed agreed income targets.
  • To develop and implement a business plan for the community café at the new LGBT Centre.
  • To provide regular reports on performance against targets, prospect pipeline and discussions with potential funders.
  • To work within the policies, procedures and budgets set by the Board of Trustees,  including the Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To act at all times in the best interests of Birmingham LGBT.
  • To prepare for, and attend, regular supervisions, and an annual appraisal.
  • To work with the Director to identify their own training needs and undertake such training.
  • To carry out other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required.

10. Strong IT skills, including being proficient in using the full Microsoft Office suite, accessing databases, email and calendar management, and using the internet A,I
