    About Our Clinics

    About the Nurse led weekly sexual health clinics

    Birmingham LGBT supported by Umbrella are committed to providing quality, accessible and appropriate sexual health services for the LGBT community. We offer a weekly sexual health and well-being clinics for all LGB or T people.

    We provide a safe, confidential space for those who may prefer to access this service in a dedicated LGBT environment.

    The weekly clinic is nurse led and facilitated by sexual health promotion team.

    What services are available at the weekly nurse led clinic?

    • Free, confidential testing and treatment for STI’s*
    • HIV rapid testing (POCT) with results given in just a few minutes
    • Hepatitis A and B vaccination
    • HPV vaccination (Human Papilloma Virus) for men who have sex with men up to 45 years of age
    • Advice on PEPSE – Post-Exposure Prophylaxis after Sexual Exposure (emergency HIV medication)
    • Advice on contraception.
    • Access to 1 to 1 support from our sexual health promotion team.
    • Access to counselling services
    • Support around sexual violence or assault with direct access to an LGBT ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advocate)
    • Support around domestic violence with access to an LGBT IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advocate)
    • Access to our sexual health peer mentoring programme.
    • Access to social support & community groups

    (*Treatment for syphilis not administered at Birmingham LGBT but can be arranged via another clinic location)

    When does the clinic run?

    Every Wednesday from 9.30am until 3pm and every Thursday from 12 midday until 7.15pm.

    The clinic runs on a first come first seen basis.

    About Clinic Trans

    Birmingham LGBT supported by Umbrella are committed to providing quality, accessible and appropriate sexual health services for the trans community. We offer a monthly sexual health and well-being clinic for all trans people.

    We provide a safe, confidential space for those who may not feel comfortable accessing general sexual health services.

    Clinic Trans is consultant or nurse led and facilitated by our trans sexual health outreach worker and trans volunteers.

    What services are available at the Clinic Trans?

    • Free, confidential sexual health screening for STI’s (Including HIV and Hepatitis B)
    • HIV rapid testing (POCT) with results given in just a few minutes
    • Liver function tests and Full blood count tests (important for monitoring the impact of hormone therapy)
    • Hepatitis B testing and vaccination
    • Advice on PEPSE – Post-Exposure Prophylaxis after Sexual Exposure (emergency HIV medication).
    • Advice on contraception.
    • Access to support from our trans sexual health outreach worker.
    • Access to counselling services
    • Support around sexual violence or assault with direct access to an LGBT ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advocate)
    • Support around domestic violence with access to an LGBT IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advocate)
    • Access to our sexual health peer mentoring programme.
    • Access to social support & community groups

    When does Clinic Trans run?

    Clinic Trans runs on the 4th Friday of each month from 4pm – 7pm.

    The clinic runs on a first come first seen basis.

    What the clinic cannot do:

    We offer a sexual health clinic, and do not offer the same services as a gender identity clinic. However, if you have any concerns about taking hormones bought from the internet or otherwise, you can discuss this confidentially with the nurse or doctor you see.  We may not be able to deal with the issue there and then but we can offer appropriate advice and may be able to refer you to an appropriate service.

    About the PrEP Advice Clinic

    Birmingham LGBT supported by Umbrella are committed to providing quality, accessible and appropriate sexual health services for the LGBT community. We offer a twice monthly PrEP Advice Clinic for LGB or T people taking or thinking of taking PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).

    We provide a safe, confidential space for those who may prefer to access this service in a dedicated LGBT environment.

    This clinic is led by a sexual health doctor and supported by our sexual health promotion team.

    What services are available at the PrEP Advice clinic?

    • Advice and monitoring to those on PrEP
    • 3 monthly HIV & STI Testing
    • 3 monthly ‘Proteinuria’ Testing (Protein in urine) – to monitor kidney health
    • Annual ‘U and E’ Tests (Urea and Electrolytes) – to monitor kidney health
    • Advice on where to get PrEP
    • Advice on how best to take PrEP (on demand or daily)
    • Monitoring of those on PrEP trial, studies, or buying privately
    • Access to support and a range of other services from our sexual health promotion team.

    When does the PrEP Advice Clinic run?

    Every 2nd and 4th Thursdays in the month from 9.30am – 12 midday.

    This clinic runs an appointment based system.

    Birmingham LGBT operate community POP-UP sexual health clinics at various LGBT or other venues. These outreach clinics are facilitated by our sexual health promotion team and offer a variety of  FREE testing options, FREE condoms, lube and sexual health advice.

    These POP UP Clinics are ideal if you find getting into other clinics difficult or prefer to get your sexual health testing done whilst you’re out.
