Pride in Sport is back! We are excited to announce a month-long celebration of LGBT participation in  sports throughout July 2017.  Whether you are total newcomer or an old hand, there is a variety of taster sessions, free trials and new activities for you to try!

Kicking off on Saturday July 1st we will have a competitive taster session at Aston University – come along for an afternoon mixing traditional and non-traditional sports. You’ll be able to find out about the wide range of LGBT sports clubs on offer, and perhaps meet other interested people and form your own sports club! Building on the success of last year representatives from LGBT sports groups across Birmingham will be there to encourage you to take up something new! Book through our Eventbrite here

On Saturday 8th July Midlands Out Badminton, a long-standing LGBT badminton group, will be holding their annual badminton tournament, in addition to their weekly Saturday sessions. There will also be a Rainbow Ramble at 11am, a walking group winding its way through from the city centre, through Edgbaston, complete with a whistle-stop tour of the Barber Institute. Please note that we can no longer provide lunch as mentioned in earlier promotional material, however we would love for you to join us at Pink Picnic on July 30th, see below.

The following weekend, Saturday 15th, will see us down at Edgbaston Reservoir from 2pm with watersports so if you fancy some kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding so close to the city centre then this is for you – please book in advance by emailing activate@blgbt.org. There will also be run leaders from the Birmingham Swifts there, so if you fancy a jog round the reservoir then bring some running shoes! Tickets are limited so book through our Eventbrite here

The 4th annual Touch My Brum tournament takes place all day at on Saturday 22nd, run by Birmingham Bulls RFC. Anyone is welcome to come along and support on the day, to participate please sign up at www.touchmybrum.com. There will be free taster sessions throughout July, so pop along to one and try it out!

We end the month with our famous Pink Picnic in Kings Heath Park on Sunday 30th. We’ve added a classic sports-day element to it this year (think tug of war, egg and spoon), as well as some tai chi and the usual relaxed atmosphere. Last year’s event was voted the best Midland’s LGBT event by readers of Midland Zone, so this year will be building on this success but adding a new twist.

In addition to our jam-packed weekends there is something on every single day throughout July. Maybe you want to attend one of our free fitness classes here at the Birmingham LGBT centre or try out a swim with the Moseley Shoals on a Wednesday, or perhaps you’re keen to take up running – come along to one of the Tuesday technical sessions run by the Birmingham Swifts, and then put your skills to the test during their Thursday social runs.

Stay tuned for updates, and clear your diary for July!
