As part of Men’s Health Week 2016, Birmingham LGBT are pleased to welcome Dr. David White to the centre on Thursday 16th June at 7:45pm to give a talk about PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).

There’s no need to book, just come along on the evening at 7:30 (for a 7:45 start).

Join Dr. David White, Consultant in GU Medicine UHB, for a FREE talk on ‘PrEP’ or Pre-exposure prophylaxis, a course of HIV drugs taken before sex to reduce the risk of getting HIV. Already used in America PrEP has been gaining a lot of focus and attention on a national level here in the UK as pressure has mounted on the NHS to provide the drug.

This highly topical and informative talk will focus mostly on the results of the UK based PROUD study and the French IPERGAY study and the evidence of the effectiveness of PrEP. The current situation with regards to the availability of PrEP will be discussed in light of the current NHS England decision not to fund this.

The talk will last for approximately 30 mins with 30 minutes after for Questions & Answers. This talk is free and open to anyone interested in finding out more about PrEP.

For further information on this event please contact adamcarver@blgbt.org

Don’t forget that Thursday is also our sexual health drop-in clinic. So why not come to the centre before hand for our free and confidential symptomatic clinic. You can be tested for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, access a full range of sexual health information and more. Our nurse-led services are delivered by experienced, professional and non-judgemental staff.

(The clinic opens at 12pm, last slot for “walk-in” patients is at 6.30pm. The clinic operates on a “first come first served” basis).
