Birmingham LGBT is working with Birmingham City Council Public Health Division to ensure the LGBTQ+ community is not left behind.
We are inviting LGBTQ+ people to attend a focus group to discuss what is important to your physical fitness:
This group will take place in a safe and confidential space at Birmingham LGBT Centre.
The report from this focus group will be seen and considered by Birmingham’s Health & Wellbeing Board and help to inform future decision making.
Refreshments will be available; discretionary public transport costs are available for people on low income, please contact us for more information.
For more details, or if you would like to attend, please contact Maria Hughes MariaHughes@blgbt.org or 0121 643 0821.
What is a focus group?
A focus group involves discussion of a particular issue, with a group of people who have lived experience of that issue. The group is asked a series of questions to prompt debate, and they can offer their views, opinions, ideas and experiences. These will be written up into a report, to help inform development in services or policies.
Birmingham Public Health
The role of Public Health is to prevent disease, prolong life and promote health whilst also considering principles such a social justice and equity and ensuring no-one is left behind. Key to this is protecting and improving the health of communities and populations at all levels.
Birmingham LGBT is working with Birmingham City Council Public Health Division to ensure the LGBTQ+ community is not left behind. We are running activities so that this community has a voice: highlighting what is needed for better health and wellbeing and proposing solutions that are safe, relevant and considerate.
The report from this focus group will be seen and considered by Birmingham’s Health & Wellbeing Board. Health and Wellbeing Boards (HWBs) are where political, clinical, professional and community leaders from across the care and health system come together to improve the health and wellbeing of their local population and reduce health inequalities.
