On this lovely walk we shall be exploring a small part of the 2400 acre National Nature Reserve which was once a medieval deer park, gifted to the people of Sutton Coldfield by Henry VIII.
Though peaceful today, Sutton Park has a rich history and has been put to many uses, having its own section of Roman road, a railway line still in operation, and past use as a military camp as well as being the site of the 9th World Scouting Jamboree in 1957. Our 4 mile walk will be led by Matt who will take us on well-surfaced paths past several of the park’s pools and you may be lucky enough to spot some wild cattle and ponies. It is mostly level, and is family and dog friendly. As always we will go whatever the weather so please wear suitable footwear.
We meet in the booking hall of Sutton Coldfield rail station B73 6AY from 10.30am ready to start walking promptly at 11am and plan to be back between 2 and 3pm. Please bring a packed lunch and for those who would like refreshment before going home there will be the opportunity to go to a pub.
