Volunteering Role

  • Support members of staff at on outreach or pop up clinics to engage and inform members of the public about Birmingham LGBT sexual health services 
  • Helping staff set up information stand 
  • Being visible at our stand when staff are busy and in clinic rooms with service users 
  • Being mindful of Birmingham LGBT GDPR and confidentiality policies 
  • Handing out sexual health service information, including condoms 
  • Listening and talking to members of the public 
  • Wear sexual health t-shirts and appropriate ID 

 

How long will the role last for?

Ongoing role with a monthly commitment to support the sexual health team

How many hours per week/month/year?

Minimum commitment of three hours a month

Would the role require specific training?

Yes. One core training day plus specific training for the role

Location: Where will the volunteer be expected to go fulfil their role?

At various events and venues around Birmingham. All staff and volunteers would leave and return to Birmingham LGBT Centre together

Application process: Email sianfinn@blgbt.org with a paragraph about why you want to volunteer, attend an informal interview, complete an application form, provide two references and complete a DBS check.

 Qualities would include the following: 

  • Professional, welcoming and approachable manner 
  • A willingness to learn about our sexual health services 
  • An interest in sexual health and well being 
  • An interest in outreach work and communication with others face to face 
  • Signposting people to relevant services when appropriate
