Volunteering at Birmingham LGBT
Birmingham LGBT are looking for people to join their existing group of committed and enthusiastic volunteers. Located on Holloway Circus, in Birmingham city centre, we offer a range of sexual health and other wellbeing services for the LGBT community. Our holistic services range from taster sessions in Yoga, regular support groups, peer mentoring, counselling sessions and sexual health testing and clinics.
Volunteers form an essential part of the team providing our services. Some support the operation of the LGBT Centre, covering reception answering the phone, admitting people who are attending events to the building; and providing information on a wide range of LGBT activities, events and groups to general visitors. Whilst others support with our sexual health team and peer mentoring, for our sexual health service.
Volunteers’ can also support the work of the Birmingham LGBT as and when required carrying out a meet and greet role at events such as the Shout Festival, Pink Picnic and LGBT sports events etc. All volunteers receive training appropriate to their role. Those helping out at the centre also require an enhanced DBS check (formerly CRB).

For almost twenty years, Birmingham LGBT has played a leading role in developing opportunities for LGBT individuals across the Greater Birmingham area and, over the last five years, has seen a process of rapid growth and expansion.
These are exciting times for one of the leading LGBT charities in the UK as we continue to deliver against an ambitious strategic plan, and ensure that Birmingham and the West Midlands is one of the best places in the country for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans people to live, work and socialise in.
Following the decision by our existing Chair to step down at our next AGM in November 2019, Birmingham LGBT’s Board of Trustees is seeking to appoint to the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees.

The LGBT Volunteer Peer Mentor will support fellow community members, to explore questions they may have related to their gender, sexuality or sex-life in a friendly and relaxed environment. LGBT community members will be paired with trained mentors to share experiences to support participants have a happy, healthy sex life and support them to have a greater understanding of looking after their well-being.
The LGBT Sexual Health Outreach Workers will help others to enjoy healthier lives by raising awareness of healthy choices, health messages and help to remove barriers.
Volunteer Sexual Health Outreach roles will be recruited from the LGBT & MSM community to take active citizenship in their community. They are volunteers who care about the gender, sexuality, sexual health and well-being of those in the LGBT community. The Volunteer LGBT Sexual Health Outreach Role will work across all lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans & MSM communities in Birmingham, as well as referring into the new specialist sexual health services offered by Birmingham LGBT. Being the Trans Clinic & 1:1 Support for Trans Men and Women; Well Woman Clinic for Lesbian and Bisexual Women & 1:1 Support; and our South Asian, Black African and African Caribbean MSM work. This may include being the Meter Greeter within our clinics when we move to a 7 day a week 12 hour a day service.
Event volunteers assist as and when required at events held at a variety of venues within the city.
Birmingham LGBT are looking for people to be volunteer receptionists and provide a friendly but professional welcome to those visiting the centre.
