5th February: Boys Don’t Cry (Dir: Kimberly Peirce 1999)

Running time: 2 hrs

Boys Don’t Cry is a powerful biographical drama based on the life of Brandon Teena, a trans man striving for acceptance and love in rural Nebraska. Played by Hilary Swank in her Oscar-winning role, Brandon’s story unfolds with moments of hope and connection, particularly through his relationship with Lana Tisdel (Chloë Sevigny). However, his life takes a tragic turn when he becomes the victim of a brutal hate crime.

Through its compelling narrative and deeply human performances, the film sheds light on issues of identity, love, and the devastating impact of intolerance, making it an enduring and significant work in LGBTQ+ cinema.
